Body Keeps the Score

Body Keeps the Score is a series of colorful nude figure paintings combining text, mixed media collage and mirror installation to tell the story of health, trauma and self acceptance in the modern era. The exhibition addresses what that the body holds onto and how these impact our personal and collective happiness and wellbeing.

Trauma is stored in our bodies’ tissues - even if the memories were killed or buried by the trauma itself. After getting off some types of medication, it can take the body up to a year to regain normal dopamine production, sometimes never fully recovering. Fixation on things like beauty standards and aging, an endless news cycle of despair and financial instability keep us in a cycle of fear and fear itself wreaks havoc on memory, brain processing and the immune system. The body holds it all - how do we begin to reckon with that?
